Red Flag Warning and Lake Wind Advisory for the Lake Tahoe Basin to start off the week

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There is a Lake Wind Advisory in place for the Lake Tahoe Basin from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday, July 6. There is also a Red Flag Warning from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday.

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued the Red Flag Warning for gusty winds and low humidity. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect. Winds will be from the Southwest 15-20 mph with gusts 30-35 mph. The humidity will be 12-20 percent for the duration.

The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause a fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.

For the Lake Wind Advisory, those winds could produce waves 2 to 4 feet. Small boats, kayaks, and paddleboards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.

Average summer temperatures will continue through Monday before a very slight cool down for midweek, then temperatures warm to slightly above average by next weekend.

The South Lake Tahoe forecast from the National Weather Service in Reno:

Monday - Sunny, with a high near 85. Breezy, with a southwest wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.

Monday Night - Clear, with a low around 45. Breezy, with a southwest wind 15 to 20 mph decreasing to 5 to 10 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.

Tuesday - Sunny, with a high near 81. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.

Tuesday Night - Clear, with a low around 45. West wind 10 to 15 mph decreasing to 5 to 10 mph in the evening.

Wednesday - Sunny, with a high near 82. Light southwest wind becoming west 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.

Wednesday Night - Clear, with a low around 46.

Thursday - Sunny, with a high near 84.

Thursday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 46.

Friday - Sunny, with a high near 86.

Friday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 48.

Saturday - Sunny, with a high near 88.

Saturday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 50.
