Missing hiker found after becoming separated from group on Tahoe Rim Trail

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue (DCSSAR) team was called to the area of the Tahoe Rim Trail south of Stagecoach Lodge on July 4 at 12:45 p.m. on the report of a missing hiker.

Earlier in the day, Aa father, his three sons, and a household assistant were visiting the area and hiking. One person of the group became separated from the others and the others called 911 for assistance when they could not locate them.

Members of the DCSSAR Mountain Bike Rapid Response Team were dispatched to search on the Rim Trail.

At around 4:00 p.m., that missing hiker made it to Kingsbury Grade where they flagged down a motorist. That driver too them back to their vacation home and then located searchers at the DCSSAR staging area.

The missing hiker was hot and dehydrated and was rendered first aid until Tahoe Douglas paramedics arrived. The hiker was evaluated by the fire department and released to the family.

DCSAR cautions all hikers to remember that even a short hike day hike can turn into a dangerous situation without the proper necessities. Carry enough water, stay within sight of others in your party, carry sunscreen, bring a map, hike during the daylight hours, bring a lightweight jacket and to wear sturdy footwear. Some type of protein/energy bars are also good to carry as well as a charged cell phone.
