Johanna "Jo Jo" Conroy July 24, 1950 - July 9, 2016

After a 3 1/2 year battle with brain cancer, JoJo Conroy passed away peacefully in her garden on Saturday July 9th. She would have been 66 on July 24th. During her 43 years as a resident of South Lake Tahoe she touched many lives in a variety of capacities. She spent her summers as a banquet waitress at Edgewood Golf Course and her winters overseeing the operation of Rainbow Mountain Ski Shop. But it was her commitment to her community and friends where she truly shined. She had a heart as big as Lake Tahoe and her generosity and passion for life were not only an inspiration, but served as a model for others to follow. Her thoughtfulness and genuine sincerity reached people from all walks of life and she quickly became a good friend to them all. She will forever remain in the hearts of those who saw her dedication to service, the care for others, her steadfast faith and the love she had for her family and friends. She loved the outdoors and was an avid hiker, biker, skier, tennis player, camper and most importantly, gardener. She was a member of the board of directors for both Tahoe Arts Project and the Family Resource Center, worked at Bread and Broth, taught Baptism classes at St. Theresa’s, and volunteered for the Outreach program at Our Lady of Tahoe.

JoJo possessed an inner beauty; a beauty that shone through her eyes and smile every day of her life. Cancer was unable to break JoJo’s spirit. It wore down her body. It exhausted her strength. It took her life. But cancer couldn’t dim her smile. Her smile exhibited a sense of self-confidence, an unmistakable kindness and an open invitation. It was the kind of smile that drew people to her. Whether you knew her for years, months, one interaction or had just been introduced, her positive attitude, zest for life and love for others was not only apparent, but contagious.

She leaves behind her husband of 41 years, Jay, a daughter Casey and son-in-law Bobby, and a son Kyle. She is survived by her two sisters, Francie and Mary and her brother Robbie.

A funeral service will be held on July 27, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at
St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1041 Lyons Avenue, South Lake Tahoe, Calif.
