American Century Golf Championship in Lake Tahoe until 2022

What the celebrities call the Super Bowl of Golf, the American Century Golf Championship has extended their contract in Lake Tahoe another seven years, until 2022.

The 2015 tournament was the 26th event to be held at Edgewood Tahoe and was the last year of the current contract.

"We're very excited that this property is going to remain in this wonderful location for a long time to come," said Jon Miller, President of Programming, NBC Sports and NBC Sports Network. "We're thrilled to be able to make this announcement today on the first day of what has already become our highest attended event ever."

The record crowds bring an economic impact to the South Shore in both a financial boost to local businesses as well as awareness to the public about the destination for future visits.

"Every time I step foot on the golf course and see all our friends from NBC and American Century, it's just the greatest week in the world," said Carol Chaplin, Executive Director of Lake Tahoe Visitor's Authority. "And there's a vibe in this community that really, really talks about the brand of not only the destination but of this particular event. It's just got its own energy and its own life."

The added impact of Justin Timberlake in the field of over 90 golfers this year is already having an impact. He tweeted out to his 46.3 million followers about the great time he had on Thursday at Edgewood.

"That's the size of a few countries," said Miller. "We're always thankful when we have a player who can help get the word out like that."

Since it's inception, the field of golfers has almost doubled since the first year when there were 48 celebrities in the tournament.

"I think a tribute to you and your team (Jon Miller) to keep the field fresh, keep the energy going,: said Mark Killen, Chief Marketing Officer of American Century Investments. "I think the fact that this event has run so well for so long is part of the magic."

Not only is the American Century Golf Tournament great for business, it's also been great for non-profits.

"I think the number, as of this year, is over $4 million have been donated to national and local charities from this event, which for made for television event is pretty remarkable," said Miller. 'And I think the local community sees that, appreciates it and realizes how much we want this community to thrive and be successful, where other communities may not have had the same results with tournaments and events that they've had. We want to make sure that this tournament always thrives and is always in this community."

"It's attracting people and great talent and everybody wants to come here and have a great time," said Killen
