The following letter was sent to the Governing Board of Directors for the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency. It's author gave it to South Tahoe Now for publication:
Dear Chair Beyer and Governing Board Members:
I am writing to you in support of your adoption of the Tahoe Valley Area Plan being put forth to you by officials of the City of South Lake Tahoe.
The Tahoe Valley Area Plan has been a long-standing and comprehensive planning effort by City officials over several years, and it has been a positive, inclusive, transparent, and thoughtful process. The plan fulfills the City's obligation to the people of South Lake Tahoe to undertake and complete long-range planning for the community. The Plan is a product of responsible and competent planning staff, elected leadership that listens, and an engaged and involved citizenry of the community.
City officials should be congratulated for their comprehensive planning approach and for their willingness and ability to engage their community and listen to people who live and work in South Lake Tahoe in plan development.
Once the plan is adopted the opportunity will be for City officials to ensure that there is a sound financial and implementation strategy that respects the rights and values of property owners and residents of the area and is based on the premise of economic growth that benefit existing business and property owners, and residents.
I have confidence that City officials will be successful in this planning endeavor. I urge the distinguished members of the Governing Board to approve the plan.
Sincerely,
David M. Jinkens, M.P.A.
