Filing period opens Monday for city council, college and school boards and more

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Filing periods are opening Monday, July 18 for several different local elected positions that will be on the November 8 ballot. The closing date is August 12 at 5 p.m. unless an incumbent does not file for reelection, then the filing period is extended five days, to August 17 at 5 p.m.

All candidates need to schedule an appointment with the County (here). Filing appointments are in Placerville except for those on July 26 and August 9 will take place at the El Dorado County Recorder-Clerks Office located at 3368 Lake Tahoe Blvd. #108, South Lake Tahoe.

City of South Lake Tahoe

There will be three open City Council seats, along with those of the city clerk and city treasurer. The nomination period for these seats opens at 8 a.m. Monday and closes at 5 p.m. on Friday, August 12.

If nomination papers for an incumbent officer of the city are not filed by August 12, the filing period will be extended for 5 days, ending on Wednesday, August 17, at 5 p.m. If no one or only one person is nominated for an elective office, an appointment to the elective office may be made as prescribed by § 10229, Elections Code of the State of California.

Nomination papers are issued by the City Clerk and may be obtained at City Hall in the City Clerk’s Office located at 1901 Lisa Maloff Way, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150. Making an appointment with the City Clerk’s office is strongly encouraged.

To be eligible to run for a city elective office, persons must be registered voters in the City of South Lake Tahoe at the time nomination papers are issued and reside within the City of South Lake Tahoe city limits.

The City of South Lake Tahoe does not have a filing fee. However, there is a charge for candidates who wish to file and have printed a Candidate Statement in the sample ballot. The fee, determined by the El Dorado County Registrar of Voters, is $395 for English and an additional $491 for Spanish.

Lake Tahoe Unified School Board

Lake Tahoe Community College Board of Trustees

Three trustee positions will be on the November ballot, one from Trustee Area 1 (in two maps, northern and southern), one from Trustee Area 2 and the other from Area 5 (in two maps, southern and northern).

Lake Valley Fire Protection District has two seats open.

South Tahoe Public Utility District board has three seats open.

Tahoe Paradise Recreation and Park District board has three seats open.
