Trailer for 'Top Gun: Maverick' released, scenes filmed at Lake Tahoe and in the Sierra

The movie trailer for "Top Gun: Maverick" where segments of the production were filmed at Lake Tahoe, was released Thursday by Paramount Pictures.

"Top Gun: Maverick" is the sequel to 1986's blockbuster "Top Gun." In true dramatic fashion, the trailer builds up the story of the Tom Cruise character Maverick as the new flight instructor of the Top Gun school.

The film is directed by Joseph Kosinski, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Cruise, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger with screenplay written by Peter Craig, Justin Marks, Christopher McQuarrie and Eric Warren Singer. It stars Cruise, Miles Teller, Val Kilmer, Jennifer Connelly, Glen Powell, Jon Hamm, and Ed Harris.

The movie takes place 34 years after the original film. Maverick is the new flight instructor of the Top Gun school, and guides Goose's son to become a pilot as his father was, according to a Wikipedia entry.

The film is scheduled to be released on June 26, 2020 by Paramount Pictures.

In December 2018, filming was done around Lake Tahoe and at Washoe Meadows State Park in Meyers. There are brief moments toward the end of the trailer that show flight scenes through high Sierra backdrops.

Preliminary production on the film officially started on May 30, 2018, in San Diego. In mid-February 2019, Cruise and the production crew were sighted on board USS Theodore Roosevelt in the NAS North Island. In March, filming was completed at NAS Whidbey Island in Oak Harbor, Washington. Principal photography ended this spring in San Diego California, Lemoore California and Lake Tahoe, according to the Wikipedia entry.
