South Lake Tahoe men arrested in separate incidents over the weekend

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) arrested two local men after separate incidents this weekend, one after a pursuit and foot chase, the other after a family fight.

A 53-year-old man was arrested Sunday night after trying to escape from a South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) officer as they attempted to pull him over for a stop sign violation.

On July 17 at approximately 10:30 p.m., SLTPD attempted to pull over Glen Canilao of South Lake Tahoe near the intersection of Pioneer Trail and Midway Road. Officers said he failed to yield and instead left the scene with police in pursuit. It turned into a failure to yield with multiple traffic violations, including driving on the wrong side of the road and excessive speed according to SLTPD Lt. Jeff Roberson.

As SLTPD disengaged from the pursuit, Canilao parked his car and ran with a bag in his hand, said Roberson. An officer saw this and ran after the suspect, tackled him, and arrested him.

Canilao was booked on a felony charge of evading a peace officer with wanton disregard for safety, and misdemeanor charges of driving with a license suspended for DUI, reckless driving, and obstruction. Roberson also said the driver had an outstanding warrant. Canilao is currently in the El Dorado County Jail on $98,000 bail.

David Anthony Miller, 47, was arrested after a family argument culminated in a confrontation between Miller and his teenage stepson. Officers were called to a home at 11:30 p.m. on July 16 where they say Miller had attempted to leave with his 8-year-old daughter but was prevented in doing so by the teen. Roberson said there was a physical fight and the teen sustained injuries. Miller was arrested without incident.

Mille is currently in the El Dorado County Jail on $100,000 bail and facing felony child abuse charges.

All suspects are to be considered innocent until proven in a court of law to be guilty.
