Boy suspected of starting Auburn fire while smoking marijuana

8:45 p.m. update: A juvenile has been arrested by CalFire law enforcement officers for starting Thursday's fire in Auburn.
The boy told officers that he was smoking marijuana when the nearby brush caught fire. He then called and reported the fire. He was taken into custody by CalFire at the scene and booked at the Placer County Juvenile Hall on arson-related charges.
Residents evacuated have been allowed back into their homes. The fire scorched 12 acres along the Upper Stagecoach Trail after it ignited around 12:45 p.m. in the Auburn State Recreation Area near Foresthill Bridge, Cal Fire said. It was contained by 5 p.m.

A fire near the Auburn State Recreation Area has prompted evacuations of nearby residences.
The Stagecoach Fire broke out about 1 p.m. and has quickly spread to 10-12 acres.
According to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office Twitter page, mandatory evacuations have been issued for Oak Haven Road, Flood Lane, Woodland Place, Lamborn Lane, Temple Drive, Tierra Way, Mountain Avenue, Sierra Way, Flood Lane, Kilham Road, Oakhill Way, Sierra Mesa Court and Sierra Mesa Place.
Some of the air tanker support has already been released to go fight other fires.
