Draft SR89 Corridor Plan available for the public to review

Event Date:
September 22, 2020 - 5:30pm

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Years of work by a team of professionals and public outreach has led to the release of the Draft State Route State Route 89 Recreation Corridor Management Plan.

Those who have been on this congested segment of roadway around Lake Tahoe are aware of the long list of issues including traffic issues, parking issues, and safety issues during the summer and popular weekends.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, and Tahoe Transportation District released the plan which outlines a potential future for the corridor that focuses on environmental improvement and quality travel experience.

The Draft SR 89 Corridor Plan is the result of over two years of planning with over 15 project partners, hundreds of stakeholders, and thousands of public comments.

The recommended plan includes a parking app and reservation system for parking from Pope Beach to Baldwin Beach to Emerald Bay, a shuttle, a recreation speed zone, new trails along the lake, improvements to the Emerald Bay pier to accommodate water taxis, all efforts to get people off SR28 and still letting them move about the area. The plan can be viewed here: https://www.trpa.org/transportation/plans-projects-and-programs/sr-89-recreation-corridor-management....

For the next two months there will be public engagement and opportunities for agency, stakeholder, and public input.
