The swimming pool at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe has been shut down due to a water leak.
During a routine inspection by the Douglas County Environmental Health Department on Thursday, it was discovered that there was a possible leak at the outdoor pool according to Ray Gentry, head of security at the South Shore casino. He said they didn't know the nature, or the source, so they notified The Nevada Department of Environmental Protection (NDEP) on Thursday afternoon.
Hard Rock officials said they shut down the pumps and closed the pool to the public. They also found a stuck flow meter which prevented Hard Rock staff from knowing there was a problem.
An investigator with NDEP was at the hotel Friday and found that an estimated 20,000 gallons of water a day leaked into the soil according to JoAnn Kittrell with NDEP.
She said the issue is still under investigation. It is unknown how long the leak was at the pool which holds about 200,000 gallons of water.
