Ildefonsa Balwing ~ 1955 - 2020

Ildefonsa Balwing, age 65, passed away on July 22, 2020 in Riverside, California after a short, but hard fought, cancer diagnosis. She was born January 23, 1955 in Tanay, Rizal in the Philippines and was the tenth of eleven children in her family.

Ildefonsa, or Eldy as her nickname, moved to South Lake Tahoe in 1986 from the Philippines to begin a new life. She married her husband Ferdinand and had two daughters before becoming a United States citizen in 1991. Eldy and her husband shared 34 years together with many wonderful memories to fill it all. She is survived by her husband, her oldest daughter Teresa and her husband Colt Carnes, and her youngest daughter Michele and her husband Viet Ngo. Eldy is also survived by two grandchildren Sakura and Alexander Carnes and by many nieces and nephews in the United States and the Philippines.

Eldy earned her business degree at the University of the East in Manila, Philippines. She partnered with her older sister Nini and created successful businesses within her hometown in the Philippines. The calling of a better life brought her to the United States and she worked many years at the Harveys Resort Hotel and Casino as a cashier on the casino floor until the early 2000s. She survived breast cancer in 2004 and continued to live a quiet life of riding her bike around town and making people smile wherever she went. She was most known for her kindness to others and her Filipino cooking. Eldy’s favorite dish to cook was pancit and was always a hit at parties.

In 2017, she moved to Southern California to live closer to her daughters and grandchildren and was at her happiest to be close to the family she held dear. She would always tell her daughters, “You can always come home.”

The family would like to acknowledge the work of Dr. Joel Pengson, the oncology team at Riverside Community Hospital, her nurses and all the health care workers that cared for Eldy during her cancer treatment and final days. Thank you for providing Eldy the best care possible during these challenging times.

Due to COVID-19, the family will have a private funeral on July 30, 2020. Please take time to pray for her on this day.
