Douglas County School District making leadership moves this summer

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Douglas County School District (DCSD) has been filling open leadership positions, a positive change after what many looked at as a turbulent year. After the board recently approved the hiring of Frankie Alvarado as its new superintendent, other new roles have been made known.

The previous acting superintendent, Jeannie Dwyer, has been announced as the new executive director of human resources, pending board approval. She has adapted to a lot of change at the district, filling various leadership roles over the past five years, including the role she has now been tapped to fill once again.

“I am honored to take on the role of executive director of human resources,” said Dwyer. “My focus will be on developing and maintaining programs that attract and retain highly qualified staff, enhancing system efficiencies, providing consistent training and professional development, and fostering a healthy and balanced work environment. I am committed to improving staff morale through open communication, collaboration, and a culture of inclusivity and support. Additionally, I plan to create a comprehensive wellness program to promote the well-being of our staff.”

There are also two new principals.

Amy Carter has been announced as the new principal of Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School, pending board approval. In the past, Carter has been vice principal at both Minden Elementary School and Gardnerville Elementary School over the past two years. Her extensive experience and dedication to educational leadership have prepared her for this new role. She has been a Kindergarten and 5th Grade ELA Teacher at Minden Elementary School and was Douglas County School District Distinguished Educator of the Year in 2022.

“I look forward to joining this school staff and this community at Pau-Wa-Lu," said Carter. "I am excited to meet families and partner with them in their children’s education.”

Andrew Fromdahl as been announced as the new principal of Minden Elementary School, pending board approval. He has been with the district since 2005, serving in various roles, most recently as the assistant principal at C.C. Meneley Elementary School. Fromdahl has 13 years of experience as an elementary English language specialist, a 3rd grade classroom teacher, and served as the summer school principal for DCSD in 2022. Fromdahl was also named Douglas County School District Teacher of the Year in 2017.

“I’m excited to join the dedicated and innovative staff at MES," said Fromdahl. "I look forward to supporting and connecting with the students and families that make up the Rattler community.”
