Letter: Pay it Forward Project invites community to find South Lake Tahoe volunteer opportunities

I am sure many of us are tired of all the negative TV political ads and how our leaders and the news media tend to divide us!

Well let’s try something a little different, we at the Pay it Forward Project would like everyone to consider something a little more positive, working together with others in our community and volunteering a minimum of two hours a month, that’s just 24 hours a year. In this work, you will find that we all have a lot more in common than the differences we hear about in the media.

Our communities, our kids, and our schools are things we can all work on together, with other like-minded people, to make important improvements in our community. We can make a big difference, meet new people, and work together, as the things that tie us together are much stronger than the things that divide us.

We can improve our beaches, parks, our schools, and programs that aid our youth, as well as assist people in need in our community. You choose what you would like to give your time to. You serve to fill your passion. Many organizations can use your help. We challenge you to just try this out and see what you might get from this experience.

Take your 24 hours and invest just a couple of hours or more at a time- in any way you choose. In addition to supporting our community, you will also meet new people and be provided with an understanding of how giving your time affects your outlook on your community and those around you.

The Pay it Forward Project also has programs in our schools, so students can make a positive difference as well.

With our partnership with the El Dorado Community Foundation, we provide funds to aid nonprofits with community volunteer projects, as well as school service club projects. Plus, we provided several scholarships for local area High Schools and Community Colleges students, for students making a positive difference in helping others and improving our schools and our community.
Check out our Facebook community pages for Lake Tahoe and Carson City for volunteer ideas and to recognize the people who are making a positive difference.

The El Dorado Community Foundation will be having a volunteer fair on Thursday, August 15 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the South Tahoe High School Student Union. The Pay it Forward Project is a proud sponsor of this event.

Come out and learn more about your local community nonprofits and service clubs, they are making a big difference in helping others and making a big difference in your community. Enjoy some street tacos and register to win a door prize. Plus, you can meet some like-minded people.
