President Joe Biden heading to Lake Tahoe Friday

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - There have been Secret Service personnel on the south and east shore of Lake Tahoe this week, all in preparation for President Joe Biden's arrival on Friday. The White House confirmed Monday that the President will arrive on August 18 and is scheduled to depart Thursday, August 24.

It has not been disclosed if the visit is for a vacation, business, or for a fundraising event. As of Monday, there are no public events scheduled.

It’s not clear if he will arrive through Reno/Tahoe International Airport, or use a military base. At this time he is not scheduled to arrive at the airport in South Lake Tahoe. Air Force One could not land in South Lake Tahoe but previous presidents have landed there in other aircraft.

During the White House briefing on Monday, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre spoke with FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell, who is in Hawaii to manage the federal response to the devastating fire on Maui. Criswell has been keeping in close contact with President Biden who is also in touch with Hawaii Governor Josh Green and Hawaii Senator Mazie Hirono. He has told them they have every resource needed in recovery and support.

The last time a president visited Lake Tahoe was former President Obama in 2016 when he attended the 20th annual Lake Tahoe Summit at Harveys, and then-candidate Donald Trump the same year at a fundraiser at Harrah's Tahoe.

"I'll be back not because it's beautiful, not just because Godfather II happens to be my favorite movie, but because this place is spectacular because it's one of the highest, deepest, purest lakes in the world," said President Obama at the Summit.
