Spring Valley woman dies while swimming in Emerald Bay

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A 46-year-old woman from Spring Valley, Calif. died on Sunday after swimming in Lake Tahoe's Emerald Bay.

First responders were called to the area at 4:57 p.m. on August 14. Two deputies with the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) assisted a woman who had gone into distress while swimming near Fannette Island. She was brought onboard the boat she'd been swimming from and CPR was started immediately by bystanders.

She was unconscious at the time EDSO marine deputies arrived on their boat. CPR continued and she was taken by boat to Vikingsholm for transport to the hospital.

It is unknown at this time if she suffered Cold Water Shock or another medical issue.
