Inaugural Lake Tahoe Climbing Festival set for Sept. 17
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 08/18/2011 - 5:11pm
There’s no better moment than Lake Tahoe in the fall to showcase our world class climbing and bouldering by creating the first ever Lake Tahoe Climbing Festival & Bouldering Competition in Meyers on Sept. 17, 2011.
Doctor Joshua Welch of Safe Haven Chiropractic in Meyers feels it’s time for everyone to watch and learn about the beauty and athleticism of playing on our Sierra Nevada granite that is in our own back yard. Lake Tahoe is known for its cool year round temperature and top quality granite. Lake Tahoe is also known as the place with an open canvas of developed and undeveloped rock. In fact, Lake Tahoe bouldering has exploded in the last few years with world class boulders around every corner.
Get out and climb, meet other members of the climbing community, and celebrate the outdoor adventure lifestyle. A beer garden will be hosted by our favorite local bar, Divided Sky, and other breweries. Live music from Safe Haven Chiropractic and food from www.TahoeBouldering.com. This new South Lake Tahoe event is free to attend.
There is a very small fee, Class 1 let’s say, for competitors which includes and T-Shirt from Rise Graphics, Lunch from Golden Bear BBQ, and the ability to win and score free stuff and cash while supporting the Access Fund and local Tahoe charities.
The Competition:
Some of the best developed climbing in South Lake Tahoe is on the numerous granite boulders scattered throughout the community of Meyers. Many climbs will be included in the contest ranging from 5.6 to V10 and beyond. Limited guides will be included in the competition format. Follow local groups to new and exclusive areas, and even climb new problems.
We have specifically designed the contest for all ability levels to make this event fun for the beginner or the pro. Friends, competitors and spectators will cheer on climbers to test their ability on Tahoe’s scenic granite boulders while turning on the crowd to climbing. More than $2000 in Prizes will be awarded.
The Festival:
The free climbing festival starts at 2pm. Get some food, check out some climbing booths and meet the athletes. Listen to great music and hang out in the beer garden. The awards ceremony will happen from 4pm-5pm with a bouldering demo competition at 5pm. After party will be at the Divided Sky with more live music and drink specials.
The Meyers Climbing Festival is a friendly competition and numerous prizes will be given out to participants in all divisions and categories. Sign up at www.tahoebouldering.com. Call Joshua Welch, DC (530) 577-5433.
