South Lake Tahoe community members to hold International Overdose Awareness Day event

Event Date:
August 31, 2024 - 10:00am

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - International Overdose Awareness Day is Saturday, August 31, and people in South Lake Tahoe will be coming together at Bijou Community Park from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Kiwanis Shelter next to the playground. Through the 2024 theme, “Together We Can,” the day will highlight the strength of coming together and standing in support of those connected to the tragedy of overdose.

RJ counseling staff, community leaders in the addiction field, and those impacted by overdose will be speaking to the community about their experiences with drug overdose. There will be information tables as well as clinical support.

On Saturday it will be 201 days since four locals died of a fentanyl overdose during a Super Bowl party. The community came together then to learn how they can save a life should they see a suspected opioid overdose and more information will be shared at the event.
