Gardnerville man arrested in South Lake Tahoe on alleged attempt to have sex with a minor

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A 55-year-old man from Gardnerville, Nevada was arrested in South Lake Tahoe Wednesday morning after allegedly arranging to have sex with a minor.
Detectives from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) had been working on a cold case involving Robert Allen Oakes when they became aware of communications between him and the minor female from the cold case.
SLTPD detectives posed as the minor female victim via text message. During the text conversations, Robert Oakes started expressing his "abnormal and unnatural sexual interest in the high school-aged female," according to SLTPD.
During the week detectives were posing as the victim via texting, Oakes requested to meet her on the bike path near South Tahoe High School with the intention of sexual intercourse.
On August 28, 2019, around 11:00 a.m., Oakes was arrested on the bike path along Lake Tahoe Boulevard near Viking Way by SLTPD detectives. Oakes was in possession of condoms, two pillows, and a tent in his car said police.
Robert Oakes was booked into ElDorado County Jail on charges of Arranging Meeting with Minor for Lewd Act and enhancements for a total of $130,000 bail.
