Suspicious early morning fire in South Lake Tahoe lands one in jail

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A South Lake Tahoe man was arrested on suspicion of arson after the home he was living in caught fire early Tuesday morning.

At 4:05 a.m., first responders were called to the Osborne Avenue home in South Lake Tahoe on the report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, they found the home fully engulfed in flames with one of the home's residents attempting to put out the fire with a garden hose.

South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) quickly addressed the fire and no flames spread to the surrounding houses though the home suffered significant damage to bedrooms and the living room, according to SLTFR Captain Kim George.

Officers and detectives from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) were also on scene and an arson investigation ensued. They arrested 35-year-old Jesus Lemus on suspicion of felony arson on an inhabited structure. He is currently in the El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe on a $190,000 bail hold.

SLTPD is continuing its investigation and there is no other information available at this time according to SLTPD Lt. Nicholaus Carlquist.
