Vandals used a chainsaw to cut down a power pole on the west slope causing the loss of power to customers in the Floriston/Farad area.
Liberty Utilities is asking for the public's help in finding the culprit(s) responsible for damage to their 25kV power line.
“We’ve experienced vandalism in that area in the past, but nothing as brazen as someone cutting down a power pole,” according to Sam Rohn, Liberty Utility’s Environmental, Health, Safety & Security Manager. “Vandals are attempting to steal copper wiring, but in the process are putting themselves and the community in danger by coming in contact with live electrical wires.”
The public is asked to call local law enforcement or Liberty Utilities at 1-800-782-2506 to report suspicious activity around any of these electric facilities and structures.
Rohn noted that Liberty Utilities has increased their security measures at undisclosed locations.
