Event Date:

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Local author and teacher, Bridey Thelen-Heidel, presents her memoir Bright Eyes at the next Friends of the Library presentation on Tuesday, September 17 at 5:30 p.m.

Heidel, who teaches English at her alma mater South Tahoe High, will present her newly published book about the struggles of living with a chaotic and dysfunctional mother. "Bright Eyes, Surviving our Monsters and Learning to Live Without Them" A Memoir, will be available for purchase.

In the book, Bridey describes how she is tethered to her mom’s addiction to dangerous men who park their Harley-Davidsons in the house and kick holes in all their doors. Raised to be her mother’s keeper, rescuer, and punching bag, Bridey gets used to stuffing her life into black trash bags, hauling them between Alaska and California, and changing schools every time her mom moves in with a new monster—or runs away from one.

"Bright Eyes is about the indomitable spirit of a young girl forced to be brave, required to be resilient, and conditioned to be optimistic, and how she ultimately uses the same traits that helped her to survive her mother’s chaos to create her own happily-ever-after," - Barnes and Noble

Bridey Thelen-Heidel is a teacher, writer, and youth advocate. She’s given a TEDx Talk, performed in Listen to Your Mother NYC, published in MUTHA Magazine, and is a frequent podcast guest. She’s been voted Best of Tahoe Teacher several times.

The South Lake Tahoe Library is located at 1000 Rufus Allen Blvd., South Lake Tahoe. The event is free and everyone is welcome .
