City of South Lake Tahoe unveils new logo

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A logo was presented to the South Lake Tahoe City Council on Tuesday, one created by a local designer as a brand for City publications, the website, social media, video publications, and other needs as they arise.

South Lake Tahoe had previously only had a City seal and that will remain as the seal.

Rise Designs of South Lake Tahoe created the logo that is meant to complement the City seal. Over time, the new logo would also be displayed on City clothing,

vehicles, and facilities as new assets are put into service and/or as funds permit.

Many local governments, particularly those that are heavily dependent on tourism, have implemented attractive, colorful, and more easily-identifiable logos, something the City of South Lake Tahoe had been lacking. The City had used their seal in all places where many other cities use a logo.

The City's Communications Manager Chris Fiore had put ideas of logos on Facebook, looking for input. The first two ideas were poorly received so he released two more ideas incorporating suggestions from the public. His goal was to create something more modern that would stand out and more effectively communicate the City of South Lake Tahoe brand and image.

A suggestion during the Council meeting was to reverse the shades of blue representing Lake Tahoe. The logo above reflects changes Marley Reel, partner at Rise Designs, made after the meetings.

Fiore told Council that the presented logo is “more fun” than a seal and give people instant recognition something is from the City of South Lake Tahoe. He said they may look at replacing the current "National Treasure" slogan in the future.
