UPDATE 8 p.m.: The Mosquito Fire has burned 37,326 acres and remains 0% contained. There was a community virtual meeting tonight with more details - https://southtahoenow.com/story/09/10/2022/mosquito-fire-37326-acres-and-burning-el-dorado-and-place....

EL DORADO/PLACER COUNTIES - The Mosquito Fire was detected the evening of Tuesday, September 6, and is actively burning actively near Oxbow Reservoir, 4 miles east of Foresthill, in brush and timber in very steep and rugged terrain. It is now mapped at 33,754 acres after an airplane with sensors flew over the area late Friday night. It is 0% contained.

The fire was less active overnight Friday than on previous nights. Cooler, more humid weather conditions Saturday should reduce fire behavior somewhat, but the vegetation remains critically dry and will burn readily, according to CAL FIRE.

It is smokey throughout the Sierra. Air quality around Lake Tahoe remains in the 151-200/unhealthy AQI range where some members of the general public may experience health effects with 24 hours of exposure; members of sensitive groups may experience more serious health effects. Real-time air quality can be monitored here - https://map.purpleair.com/?opt=1/mAQI/a0/cC0#8.98/39.0283/-120.6396.

Evacuation orders and warnings remain the same in El Dorado and Place counties. El Dorado County has a webpage dedicated to the fire: https://edcgov.us/wildfire/Pages/Mosquito-Fire.aspx, and one for Placer County: https://www.placer.ca.gov/8254/Mosquito-Fire-local-emergency.
