EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - Another hot and dry day at the Fork Fire today but the incoming increase in winds from the southwest are a concern to firefighters. The winds will start Sunday and could last until Tuesday. The fire is now measured at 1,736 acres and has a containment line around seven percent of the fire.
Saturday the firefighting incident command received some needed resources, even with the competition for them across the state. They did a lot of work with containment lines to the east and north so they will hold up during the change in weather. They used helicopter drops and an air attack for awhile.
When the fire started Tuesday the strong winds from the east stoked the fire and carried it quickly. It hit the burn scar from the King Fire which helped slow its speed.
There are currently 237 personnel assigned to incident.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. A team of investigators will work on determining the cause when it is safe to do so.
