The Tahoe Fund raises $750,000 in donations to start Incline Village to Sand Harbor Bike Path

The Lake Tahoe Bikeway which will one day go around the lake got one step closer with the news that funding is now in place for a scenic section on the North Shore. The Incline Village to Sand Harbor bike path will be started next spring due to garnering enough donations from private investors.

The Tahoe Fund announced they have received $750,000 in donations that will trigger more than 12 million dollars in public funds from federal, state and local governments.

The Incline to Sand Harbor bike path will be a three-mile paved path that will provide a new opportunity for the community to experience the natural beauty of the eastern shore of Tahoe will being able to travel on Hwy 28 in a safe manner. The path will be 10 feet wide and meet the American Disability Act standards. Walking, biking and strolling will all be encouraged on the trail.

It will begin at the intersection of Lakeshore Drive and Highway 28, expanding the current Lakeshore bike path for three more miles down to the Sand Harbor State Park. Along the way it will provide access to Hidden Beach, Memorial Point and various other scenic vistas. It is a major component of the Lake Tahoe Bikeway that will one day go all the way around the Lake.

The South Lake Tahoe portion of the Bikeway has been completed from Kahle Drive to Round Hill Pines Resort, giving users access to Nevada Beach.
