Carson City Sheriff’s Office to host 3nd annual K9 Unit Challenge and Public K9 Obstacle Course

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office will be hosting the 3rd annual K9 Unit Challenge and Public K9 Obstacle Course on Saturday, October 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fuji Park in Carson City.
This is a free, public event.
Dozens of K9s from multiple agencies will compete in three primary events: patrol apprehension, odor detection, and agility. Apprehension and Agility events will be on full display at Fuji’s main arena, where there are bleachers for public viewing (and cheering).
In addition to the main event, the public is invited to participate in a separate agility course event with their dogs. Spaces for the public competition are limited, so please use the QR code below to sign up early or visit https://www.carson.org/government/departments-g-z/sheriff-s-office/news-events/k9-unit-challenge. The public event portion will take place in the Fuji Park arena at noon, is $25 to register, and requires a signed liability waiver.
Tentative Schedule
8 a.m. -- Move with the Mayor | Mingle with the K9
8:45 a.m. – Opening Ceremony & National Anthem
9 a.m. – Event Starts – Patrol Scenarios and Obstacle Course Runs in the Main Arena Alternating (demos in-between)
11 a.m. – SWAT Demo
Noon -- Public Agility Course
1 p.m. – JJ Christy with KBUL-FM – Bite Demo
3 p.m. – Mounted Unit Demo
4 p.m. – Awards and Event End
Whether you’re going to compete or watch, there will be chances to meet the dogs, and vendors, get some cool K9 swag, and enjoy good food. There will also be a SWAT demonstration at 11 a.m., JJ Christy with K-BULL 98.1 will make a special appearance at 1 p.m., and a mounted unit demonstration at 3 p.m.
