Sierra Alphorn Players play at final Tahoe History Talks at the Beach

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Historical Society is hosting the final Tahoe History Talks at the Beach for the season on Tuesday, September 21. An hour with the Sierra Alphorn Players will start at 5:30 p.m. at El Dorado Beach at Lakeview Commons (you'll find them on the shady west side of the amphitheater-style outdoor seating.

This special evening is rescheduled from the original date due to the Caldor Fire. The ensemble plays Alphorn Swiss Mountain Horns, the traditional horn used by shepherds to call the cows in from the pasture and to communicate with other herdsmen in neighboring alps. They will perform traditional Swiss pieces from the 1700s through the 1800s, French and Italian music through the 1900s, and Swiss and German pieces from the 20th century.

The musicians will share the history of the instrument which is traditionally played at dusk.....exactly the time of day the South Lake Tahoe performance will be held.
