Liberty Utilities donates firewood to the Washoe Tribe

Liberty’s robust year-round vegetation management program prunes and/or removes vegetation that may pose a risk to electrical infrastructure. A bi-product of this work is green waste or, in other words, a lot of wood. In support of Liberty’s commitment to sustainability, when possible, Liberty delivers this green waste to facilities that can repurpose it, such as Eastern Sierra Landfill, which chips the wood and provides it to Full Circle Compost in Carson City.

The volume of green waste produced is often beyond what these facilities can manage, and additional green waste solutions are needed. Recently, the Washoe Tribe expressed a need for wood. The Washoe Tribe can process raw wood into firewood for its elders, who then use it to stay warm in the winter. Liberty provides no-cost wood to the Washoe Tribe, which delivers the wood to community members in need.

“This solution has proven mutually beneficial,” said Dawnne Hirt, Liberty System Arborist. "This collaboration reduces green waste going to landfills and provides winter heating fuel for those in need."
