Prescribed fire operation near Tahoe City brings large plume of smoke

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There is a large prescribed fire operation at Burton Creek State Park with a large plume of smoke, causing concern from people around Lake Tahoe. As announced, California State Parks is working on a large hazardous fire fuels project requiring the implementation of prescribed fire within the wildland-urban interface of their park regions.

On Wednesday, 20 acres were ignited and another 20 acres is expected to be ignited on Thursday, and 21 on Friday.

The whole park Project will treat a minimum of 200 acres, up to a maximum of 354 acres in Burton Creek SP (up to 88 acres), Sugar Pine Point SP (up to 196 acres), and Emerald Bay SP (up to 70 acres).
