Next Tahoe History Talk features presentation "Glenbrook—from Timber to Tourism"

Event Date:
October 15, 2024 - 6:00pm

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Join the Lake Tahoe Historical Society on Oct. 15 for their next Tahoe History Talks at the Museum Complex. The guest speaker will be Susan Magee Clemons, the president of the Glenbrook Historical Society. Her presentation, “Glenbrook—from Timber to Tourism,” will include a slideshow of Glenbrook then and now.

The Glenbrook Historical Society's mission is to preserve, promote, and communicate the history and heritage of Glenbrook, Nevada.

Today Glenbrook is a peaceful community nestled on the east shore of Lake Tahoe. Before the turn of the last century, however, Glenbrook was just the opposite: a bustling, industrial center where the trees surrounding Lake Tahoe were milled and sent off to Virginia City.

Beginning in the early 1900s, Glenbrook’s popularity as a resort destination was taking off. Scenic beauty, alpine lake activities, and discreet privacy brought many interesting characters to Glenbrook.

The history talk will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 3058 Lake Tahoe Boulevard, South Lake Tahoe, Calif. History talks are free to attend, however, donations are appreciated. Programs are suitable for all ages. The History Museum will be open after the presentation.

There will be a brief Fall General Membership at the beginning where the Historical Society will hold an election for three Member-at-Large officers. The Nominating Committee has chosen the following slate: Bob Harms, Dave Borges, and David Wakeman to serve for the period of January 1 to December 31, 2025.
