Hurray to 30 Years!

For the past three decades, Tahoe Arts Project (TAP) has flourished under the direction and leadership of Peggy Blowney. On October 1, Peggy celebrates 30 years with the organization.

First, she joined TAP as the assistant director in 1992 before becoming its executive director. Her dedication to achieving TAP’s mission goes above and beyond. This has allowed the organization to thrive and grow. Peggy clearly loves what she does, and it shows through the joy she brings to the kids and all the joy that they bring to her.

Tahoe Arts Project (TAP) was established in 1987 by a group of parents, professional musicians, and teachers. Today the nonprofit reaches over 5,000 students in El Dorado, Douglas, and Alpine counties by bringing professional and multi-cultural performing arts groups to the schools. Performances are also offered to the community as well. TAP’s lineup includes a residency from Missoula Children’s Theater and historical presentations from Living Voices, as well as many other live multicultural events.

Tahoe Arts Project has expanded to offer scholarships to high schools and LTCC students who are pursuing an education in performing arts, as well as funding a drumming and self-esteem program for Mt. Tallac High School students offered by local musician Liz Brosco. TAP also supports some local performing arts programs through sponsorships.

TAP is able to provide live performing arts to many students who would not otherwise be able to have the cultural experience. Studies have shown that exposure to the arts is so important for children in their education. It helps with test scores, creative thinking skills and problem-solving.

“It’s just super important for kids to have that part of their education. The schools rely on us to provide that because they are not able to do it on their own,” says Peggy.

The Tahoe Arts Project board of directors, the schools, and the community would like to acknowledge and thank Peggy for her 30 years of dedication and her passion to enrich the lives of the children in the community through performing arts!
