Ready for some rain and upper elevation snow in Lake Tahoe?

An unsettled weather pattern and further cooling looks likely for the upcoming week in Lake Tahoe with the best chances for rain from Tuesday through Thursday.

The National Weather Service in Reno (NWS RENO), dry conditions will prevail today through most of Monday, with areas of mid-high level cloud cover especially on Monday ahead of the next low pressure system approaching the California coast. There is a complex weather scenario setting up for Tuesday-Wednesday

Remnants from Hurricane Rosa are unlikely to be a direct source of precipitation for any part of eastern California or western Nevada as previously forecast. A low-pressure system dipping south into the Sierra will tap into a subtropical moisture

band, keeping rain chances going for Tuesday-Tuesday night for much of the region, with the best overall potential near the Sierra and into western NV south of
US-50 and South Lake Tahoe.

By Wednesday, this low looks to swing inland with plenty of moisture spreading northward across CA-NV, although there is some uncertainty to how far north it will get. The most likely scenario calls for rain chances mainly south of I-80 through Wednesday morning, then expand them northward during the afternoon.

The subtropical nature of this moisture combined with the projected track of the low center`s cold pool aloft remaining south will keep snow levels quite high, generally above 10,000 feet.
