Letter: Duane Wallace for STPUD

I was glad to see that Duane Wallace is running again for the Board of Directors of the South Tahoe Public Utility District, (STPUD). He is a good man.

I have known Duane Wallace perhaps longer than anyone else in town. He was about 21 years old in 1975 when he opened Happy Steak Restaurant at the Y. I was 14 and determined to work there. I went there every day after school to ask him to hire me. I finally wore him down and he put me to work keeping the huge salad bar stocked and fresh. I ended up working for and with him as a cashier then a waitress, then as manager for 14 years. He taught us all about business and customer service. The business skills he taught me fed my family for many years. He still treats me like family as he does all who ever worked for him, many of whom now own their own businesses. I think he is most proud of that.

His honesty and business sense made him a very good Board member at STPUD. I have read in the newspapers over the years as he brought in millions in grants through his connections in Washington DC and kept the rates the lowest in the Basin. He has worked hard to put in new fire hydrants for fire protection. I’ve been proud to see what he has accomplished. I think the utility district needs someone with his background and experience. Of course, Duane Wallace has my vote in this election. I hope he has your vote too.

Sheri Henson,
