Power outage in South Lake Tahoe

3:45 p.m. update: Crews have been able to re-route power to re-energize most customers. The remaining customers are expected to be re-energized by 5:30 pm and then crews will focus on the long term repairs through the night.

3:20 p.m. update: Power has been restored to about half of those affected by the earlier outage. Liberty Utilities says the remaining 3,184 customers should have power restored by 3:41 p.m.

2:00 p.m. update: A subcontractor working on replacing the metal beam guardrail on Highway 50 over the Upper Truckee River hit into a Liberty Utility line. Crews are on the scene to replace the main and the estimated restoral time remains at 12:38 a.m. Wednesday for about half without power, just before 4:00 p.m. Tuesday for the rest.

1:10 p.m. update: Thirty percent of Liberty Utilities' customers in South Lake Tahoe, or 6,875 homes and businesses, are impacted by the current power outage. Excavation work unrelated to Liberty has dug into underground power lines and caused the outage. This is a significant issue and the estimated restoration time is 12:30 a.m.

"We will restore as many customers possible by switching, but please prepare for an extended outage," said Liberty.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There is currently a power outage in South Lake Tahoe. At this time there is no estimated time of restoral as crews are trying to determine the cause.

Customers of Liberty Utilities are encouraged to report the outage at 1-800-782-2506 if they are affected to help us pinpoint the issue. Their outage website currently says power to be restored around 3:16 p.m. but that is an estimate until the cause is determined.
