Lake Tahoe will not be affected by PG&E public safety power outage

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Cali. - To reduce wildfire risk during the forecasted severe wind event in California west of Lake Tahoe, Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) will implement a Public Safety Power Shutoff in parts of northern, central and coastal counties of the state, but not in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

PG&E expects to begin turning off power later Tuesday night, just after midnight.

Liberty Utilities provides power to most of the stretch of the Sierra from Coleville to Portola. NV Energy provides power to the Truckee Donner Public Utility District who supplies about 70 percent of the power to the town of Truckee. They also supply power to the state of Nevada, including the east side of Lake Tahoe.

PG&E has five million customers in California and, at this time, has issued a "shut-off watch" to more than 600,000 of them in 29 of the state's 58 counties. El Dorado County's western portion is affected by this watch. The unprecedented power shut off could last two to three days.

Liberty Utilities said they have received several calls from concerned customers unsure if they will be shut down. At this time neither Liberty Utilities or NV Energy have plans during this wind event to shut power off to customers.
