New restaurant, pavilion and dock for Round Hill Pines resort

A new dock, breakwater, restaurant and beach pavilion will all be in place for the 2018 summer season at the Round Hill Pines Resort.

With demolition of the old structure nearly complete, work started last week on a new 3,000-square-foot facility overlooking the beach.

The new building will house a full commercial kitchen, retail space, restrooms, offices for the resort’s management and sales staff, and storage. The seating for the summer bar and grill will be in an open-air pavilion with retractable awnings.

“In designing this improvement, we really listened to our customers,” said Kris Knox, Round Hill Pines Resort corporate general manager. “Round Hill Pines is a family tradition. From celebrating special moments like senior picnics for the local high schools to family reunions it is a special place to many people and we want to keep it that way. It is a small family friendly spot where people come to relax and enjoy Lake Tahoe and build lifelong memories.”

The resort opened as a privately-owned summer only resort in 1951. The U.S. Forest Service purchased the land in 1984, and in 2014 the special use permit for the property was awarded to Bob and Tammy Hassett, who also operate Camp Richardson Historic Resort and Marina. In addition to the beach, Round Hill Pines also has a marina with a variety of boating services and rentals.

Knox said the new building will match its surroundings with architecture reminiscent of a mountain lodge. Along with a summer beach bar and grill, the new commercial kitchen will allow the resort to offer catering for on property groups and events. The resort is a popular choice for weddings.

New food and beverage facilities, dock improvement and restrooms were part of the improvement plan put forth when the US Forest Service awarded the permit. These projects represent a significant investment into improvements with $2 million toward the construction.

“This will be a major upgrade to the property and benefit for our guests and the environment. The resort has also begun construction on a new beach restroom facility,” Knox added.
