Letter to the Editor: Great time for opportunity, collaboration and positivity

The desperation evident in those in our community, including some other candidates for City Council, who hope to maintain the status quo and deny us the opportunity to evolve is reaching fever pitch. As indicated in the Form 460 I filed as required by the FPPC, I received a campaign contribution of $5,000 from a Nevada resident, a retired businessman with philanthropic leanings. Aside from our one conversation in which we discussed our love of Tahoe, some local nonprofit organizations we'd both supported, and our love for our own daughters, I've never spoken with him. I also received many contributions from residents of Meyers, each of whom said "I wish I could vote for you but I can't because of these city boundaries!" I am beholden to no one.

I can understand why some in our community are scared. There is change. There is opportunity. There is positivity. There is collaboration, even across state lines.

Don't buy in to this fear-mongering. Understand the facts, not the misinformation. I want to be your City Council member because I believe in public service, not service to any special interest nor to my own ego. I commit to collaborating on what's best for our community with my fellow council members, not backing out of doorways when I see them to avoid them or sending snarky letters to the editor about them. We are one community, bigger than the boundary lines of the city, and we'd better start acting like one, for the economic and environmental success of us all.
