Results from Douglas County master plan survey released

Douglas County has released the results of a community survey on the Master Plan Text Amendment conducted in September of 2020. More than 1,500 people took the survey, which asked about Agriculture and Conservation, Economic Development, Growth Management, Land Use, Public Facilities, Services, Recreation, and Public Safety. The Master Plan text provides additional guidance on the long- term development of the County (over the next 10-20 years). The text defines current issues and needs in the community.

“On behalf of the Planning Commission we would like to thank those who took the time to take the Master Plan survey. Our hope is that the responses will provide us with some good insight as to what the people of Douglas County are hoping to see for the future of our community,” said Kirk Walder, Chairman of the Planning Commission.

Almost six percent of those responding were from the Lake Tahoe area of the county, 14.74 percent from the Gardnerville Ranchos and the rest from all areas of Douglas County and a few from outside its boundaries. Most respondents have lived in the county for 11 years or longer and are retired.

A presentation of survey results will be given to the Planning Commission during their Special Meetings on October 20 and 21, 2020. Staff utilized the feedback from the survey and the community workshops in September to make revisions to the proposed Master Plan goals, policies and actions which will also be presented to the Planning Commission for consideration at the special meetings in October. The results of the survey, and the revised goals, policies and actions can be viewed on the County’s Master Plan webpage at www.douglascountynv.gov/2020masterplanupdate.

The public is strongly encouraged to provide additional public comment on the draft goals, policies and actions by email to masterplan@douglasnv.us , by appointment with the Community Development Department’s office up until the day before the meeting, or during the Planning Commission meetings.

Additional questions or comments regarding the Master Plan can be submitted to Tom Dallaire, Director of Community Development, or Sam Booth, Planning Manager at 775-783-6015 or via email at masterplan@douglasnv.us.
