Market at Markleeville canceled Saturday due to closure of SR89 in Alpine County

ALPINE COUNTY, Calif. - The Market at Markleeville has been canceled due to a mandatory Highway 89 Road closure by Caltrans scheduled for Saturday, October 14, 2023.

“Unfortunately, due to the mandatory road closure of Highway 89 for the Highway 89 Bridge Reconstruction Project, we will be canceling Market at Markleeville," said Alpine County PIO JT Chevallier. "The road closure of Highway 89 will require a detour through the Market closure area on Montgomery Street, rendering the Market infeasible. We explored all options, but unfortunately, cancelation is the best and most prudent decision at this time. We encourage visitors and locals to enjoy the Markleeville downtown during the closure and appreciate the public’s understanding."

"We would like to thank all our attendees, visitors, and vendors for coming out to celebrate the community of Markleeville this season and we look forward to coming back bigger and better than ever in 2024! A very special thanks to Cynthia Ferris Bennet and the entire team at Sierra Chef for making this year successful,” added Chevallier.
