South Tahoe High students hit the big screen Saturday with "Horse-Play"

Event Date:

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Tahoe High School (STHS) student group, ASMC, is bringing its first movie to Heavenly Village Cinemas on Saturday, October 19 at 6 p.m.

Over the past two winters, STHS students have hit the slopes to create a snowboarding and skiing movie, and those efforts will now be on the big screen in "Horse-Play."

The film is the creation of the school's Action Sports Marketing Club (ASMC) under the guidance of its president, Payton King. The club was started two years ago during the school's flex period after teacher Tony Sunzeri noticed King's videos about winter sports on social media. Sunzeri got King and his friends into a flex period on production, sports, and sports marketing. Another student, the club's CFO Spencer Jones, had the support of his non-profit specialist mother Alice, and dad, teacher David, who together with the Sunzris formed the official 501(c)3.

ASMC is an entrepreneurship club for Tahoe kids doing Tahoe things while learning how to be entrepreneurs, said Sunzeri.

Horse-Play will feature skiers and riders at resorts as well as jumping above Angora Lake.

The movie has turned into an event with giveaways of prizes including skis, boards, clothing, and even cash! The movie starts at 6 p.m. with the raffles during an intermission, with a second showing afterward - in case anyone misses a part the first time around.

Peyton worked with Heavenly Village Cinema which is donating the space. There is also free validated parking for the movie.

Tickets are $10 and available at the door. All funds go back to ASMC. If you can’t make the movie, the students have created a 501(c)3 and accept donations through Venmo. That account can be found HERE. All donations are tax-deductible.
