South Tahoe Swim Team needs community support as they "go local"

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. - The Tahoe Swim Team is making the shift from being under a for-profit company in Reno to being its own 501(c)(3)nonprofit organization, and they need help from the South Lake Tahoe community.

A shift in leadership/ownership brings this longtime competitive and successful swim program home again. The coaching team remains the same and interested all swimmers are encouraged to try out. This is a year-round club that meets on weekday afternoons at the South Tahoe Recreation Center Pool, their home for decades.

As a nonprofit, the swim team is starting to raise funds for swim gear, coaching salaries, and equipment. All previous gear and equipment were removed by the previous owner, Northern Nevada Aquatics, so the team is starting from scratch.

The inaugural fundraising event will be a swim-a-thon on November 17. Swimmers will collect pledges and swim hard to raise funds for their team. The public is invited to support the move from a privately owned team to a local non-profit through a Go Fund Me at https://gofund.me/5347fecf.

Already the community has graciously stepped up to support the swimmers.

Tahoe Swim Team will be offering more opportunities for cross-training with other Tahoe-based sports, flexible membership options, parent input, and highly qualified coaching staff.

Parents and coaches are looking forward to a strong local team that enjoys swimming together, sharpening skills, participating in non-swim team activities, and being part of the rejuvenated Tahoe Swim Team. Those interested in trying out for the team should contact coaches at TahoeSwimTeam@gmail.com or come by the pool Monday thru Thursday at 4:30 to get a feel for how the swim club operates.
