Windy Sunday Leads to Rain and Snow Forecast for Monday

Change is in the air for South Lake Tahoe weather. Winds are picking up Sunday, temperatures will be dropping overnight with rain and snow due on Monday.

According to the weather reports, a low pressure system and a cold front reaches the eastern Sierra and western Nevada late Sunday and Monday.

As the low approaches, winds will increase this afternoon with

gusts of 40 to 50 mph across northeast California including the Lake Tahoe
basin and western Nevada. Gusts in wind prone areas along Highway
395 may reach 65 mph this afternoon. The strongest winds are
forecast to occur this evening and tonight across Mono County
where gusts of 50 to 75 mph are possible.

Showers will begin to develop as the cold front passes and the low moves overhead tonight and early Monday morning. Colder air will also move into the region overnight. Snow levels to drop to near and below 5000 feet early Monday morning.

Around the Tahoe basin and Mono County... snow accumulations of up
to 6 inches are possible above 7000 feet with up to 3 inches
possible down to 6000 feet for Monday. Those traveling over the
Sierra passes should be prepared for slick roads and winter
driving conditions.

Across the western Nevada valleys... showers will produce wet and
slick roads which may slow the Monday morning commute. At this
time snow is unlikely to stick to paved surfaces... with a light
coating of snow possible on non-paved surfaces.

The high for Monday is 40 with a low of 26. Tuesday's high to be 45 with a low of 22. Back to sunny and mild on Wednesday until the next system due in on Monday, November 4.
