Douglas County commissioners to discuss future of Tahoe Township, VHR rule changes, new judicial center

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - During its November 2 meeting, the Douglas County Board of Commissioners will receive a presentation about creating one township for the county, removing the separate Tahoe Township, and combining the courts.

The Tahoe Township Justice Court operates in Stateline, and the East Fork Township Justice Court is in the valley. Staff will present caseloads for each court. According to the agenda, Commissioners Hales and Gardner asked for the issue to be brought forward to make sure cases are distributed evenly, and to discuss the consolidation of the townships.

The commissioners will also receive a presentation on financing the $60M judicial center project for the county.

Vacation Home Rentals (VHRs) are also on the agenda, again. There may be a change to code enforcement practices related to the administration of VHR code enforcement complaints and the number of VHR permits allowed within Douglas County, including (a) new limitations related to proximity, distance, and/or other locational factors; (b) stricter limitations on the density of VHRs within certain residential communities, including the criteria that will be used to set those limitations; and (c) methods that can be used to achieve compliance with any limitations.

Changes to the VHR code have been ongoing in Douglas County and there is currently an initiative to ban them from almost all areas of the county.

The 10 a.m. meeting will be held in the Historic Courthouse, 1616 Eighth Street, Minden, and can be viewed on YouTube https://youtu.be/Ci99dVj8x1o.
