Voters in South Lake Tahoe to decide the direction the city and county will take

You've seen the ads, you've heard the commercials and you've read the materials that all lead to your voting on Tuesday, November 4. Tuesday is Election Day!

On the South Shore we have a few different races to decide along with state issues and candidates, and it's not as simple as filling in the bubbles on your ballot.

The biggest question for city residents will be "who do you want to lead the direction of the City of South Lake Tahoe over the next four year?" Do you like what has been accomplished over the last couple of years in the city? Are you confident the city is moving in the right direction for success? If you answered "yes" then your vote will determine how successful the continual movement towards a community we are proud of will be.

In the County Supervisor election there is no incumbent to choose from. Both candidates are long time local residents, so who has what it takes in your mind?

The TahoeChamber came out with their list of candidates they support and believe will be catalyst needed for the future. Of course, not everyone agrees with them but their research and opinion warrants a look. Their candidate endorsement committee spent hours of research on the candidates and are supporting those they felt had what it takes depending on the five pillars used their adopted community vision: Economic Vitality, Quality of Life, Sustainability, Infrastructure and Intellectual Capital.

A couple of other local news sources came out with their lists as well. With so many differing opinions there is no clear cut leader for the next City Council, County Board of Supervisors and South Tahoe Public Utility Board.

So it's time to ask yourself, are you happy with the direction all three entities are taking or do you want change?

There is one day left until the election, so if you're still undecided its time to reach out to the candidates and ask questions. While all the candidates care about our community, the way they'll go about things is the biggest difference. Does your candidate have the personality needed for teamwork and to get down to work? Is the candidate you're looking at perhaps too narrow minded to make that work?

If you still can't decide, look at those that came out with their list of recommended candidates and evaluate which of them you most trust and rely on for their research, open process and honesty.

The polls are open from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday. South Tahoe Now will be following the results and posting them as soon as ballots are counted after 8 p.m.
