Winter weather and wind advisories in place for Lake Tahoe for Monday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Winter Weather Advisory that will be in effect on Monday from noon to midnight for areas above 7000 feet in the Greater Lake Tahoe Area.

Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches above 7000 feet. A dusting to an inch is possible for Lake Tahoe and Truckee communities.

Plan on slippery road conditions, delays, and chain controls. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute. Allow extra time to reach your destination.

There is also a Lake Wind Advisory for Lake Tahoe until 4 p.m. Monday. Expect southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Waves 3 to 5 feet. Highest waves from mid-lake to the north and east shores.

For the next two days at lake level:

Monday - Rain, mainly after 1 pm. Snow level 7500 feet. High near 48. Breezy, with a southwest wind of around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. The chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Monday Night - Rain and snow, becoming all snow after 1 am. Snow level 7100 feet lowering to 6300 feet after midnight. Low around 22. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph. The chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.'

Tuesday - A 40 percent chance of snow, mainly before 4 pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 44. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Little or no snow accumulation is expected.

Tuesday Night - A 20 percent chance of snow before 10 pm. Mostly clear, with a low around 18. East wind around 5 mph.
