En Camino al Colegio - College Bound Lake Tahoe holding information meeting for families

Event Date:
November 20, 2023 - 6:00pm

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Latino community is invited to the next College Bound/En Camino al Colegio informational meeting on pathways to college. At South Tahoe High, just six percent of Latino students graduate with enough completed units with a C or better in the A-G class requirements, and this meeting is being held to help parents navigate through the requirements of college-bound students. Forty-two percent of the overall population at STHS has the classes needed for California colleges and universities.

This is the last informational meeting and will be followed by upcoming workshops. The previous presentations have been in both English in Spanish.

The meeting will be held on Monday, November 13 at 6 p.m. at the Bijou Community School at 3501 Spruce Avenue, South Lake Tahoe. There will be free food and childcare.

College Bound is a collaboration between partners including the Lake Tahoe Unified School District, Lake Tahoe Community College, and the Family Resource Center to provide families a one-stop shop for learning to successfully navigate the pathways of education and dual-enrollment classes. While not all students end up wanting to go to college, completing the A-G classes gives them choices and options after high school, instead of finding closed doors.

To be eligible to enter a four-year public college (either the California State University or University of California systems), students must meet a series of course requirements called A through G (A-G). Students must take and pass the A-G course requirements – that is 15 specific high school courses with a grade of C or better.

E - Language other than English. Two years of the same non-English language
F - Visual and performing arts. One year chosen from dance, drama/theater, music or visual art.
