Placer County moves into the Red Tier; North Lake Tahoe businesses affected

NORTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Like most of California, COVID-19 cases have been on the rise in Placer County, prompting state officials to move the area which includes Kings Beach and Tahoe City into the more restrictive red tier.

The red tier of the California Blueprint for a Safer Economy reopening framework increases restrictions for indoor operation of restaurants, gyms and places of worship, among other activities. Bars that do not serve food are closed, gyms may open at ten percent occupancy and other businesses face restrictions. Go to covid19.ca.gov/safer-economy to see what's open and the latest reopening guidance.

As the temperatures drop and people tend to want to gather indoors, county officials ask all to continue to help slow the spread of the disease in the community. Opt for virtual gatherings, keeping any in-person gatherings small, outdoors and masked.

Placer County includes the Olympic Valley, Tahoe City, Kings Beach, Homewood, the area south of Truckee, down to Roseville, Auburn and Rocklin.

El Dorado County has also been assigned to the Red Tier but the county health official has filed adjudication paperwork and that move is on hold.
