Epic Promise progress reports outlines Vail Resort's work in local communities

Vail Resorts just released its 21/22 EpicPromise Progress Report, which unpacks substantial progress toward reaching net zero emissions and its impact in Tahoe and beyond.

Collectively, they’ve surpassed their 2025 interim goal of 50 percent progress toward net-zero three years early and reached 100 percent renewable electricity in North America and 96 percent worldwide.

The company donated $22.9 million to over 250 local organizations working to address the various needs of their communities – from food and housing assistance and childcare, to inclusive access programs and forest health.

In Lake Tahoe, Heavenly, Kirkwood, and Northstar staff work on Tahoe-specific goals on several fronts, and some of the progress is listed below:

- Heavenly staff members hosted weekly clean-ups at the Heavenly Village and Cal Base areas, picking up over 2,000 cigarette butts between June and July 2022.

- Northstar repurposed 23 lift towers into terrain park features, and as part of the Northstar Habitat Management Plan (HMP), it treated almost 70 acres of forests for fuel management and habitat enhancement. NCSD covered an additional 154 acres in and adjacent to the resort.

- In pursuit of solutions to manage excess wood at the mountain, the Kirkwood team uses its wood mill to process wood from dead or hazardous trees in a timely manner, without unnecessary environmental impacts.

- TAMBA and the League to Save Lake Tahoe each received additional $25,000 grants in response to the Caldor Fire to help with environmental restoration. Employees from Heavenly, Kirkwood, and Northstar also volunteered their time to help with these efforts.

- Contributed to the Tahoe Fund in California and Nevada through the environmental stewardship programs that protect and preserve the natural landscapes surrounding resorts.

- Continued partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe and Boys & Girls Club of South Lake Tahoe.

- Sponsors four Adopt-A-Day of Nourishment at Bread & Broth, providing financial and staff support.
