While its teams began patrols in the area, they continued to experience significant wind in the area, with gusts as high as 50 miles per hour. Based on the continued weather forecasts for the night, customers who are currently without power will remain without power through the evening.

Once winds subside and crews can complete inspections in the morning, they will be able to restore power quickly to affected customers, as long as no damage is found. Although this could change, and necessary repairs may require additional time for correction, they are expecting to have power restored by 9 a.m. Thursday, November 20.

NV Energy will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as they are available.

Please note: Other unplanned outages due to weather or other incidents may occur in areas outside of these zones. If you are currently experiencing an outage, please visit the Outage Center.

Due to high winds and increased fire risk, NV Energy has implemented a Public Safety Outage Management power outage (PSOM) in seven of its Northern Nevada zones, affecting over 15,000 customers and leading to school closures in Carson City.

The PSOM is currently affecting Genoa North, South Carson City - Clear Creek, South Carson City - Jacks Valley, Virginia City Highlands, Galena, Washoe Valley, and Southwest Reno.

Customers in the Verdi zone remain in a WARNING status as of this morning. NV Energy says it may need to de-energize that area if certain conditions are met but they remain in power at this time.

The length of the PSOM is unknown at this time. Liberty issued one on Tuesday for areas south of Lake Tahoe and warned customers it could last over 24 hours due to the incoming storm and high winds.

Douglas County has established a warming center at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center (1329 Waterloo Ln, Gardnerville, NV 89410). Residents needing a place to warm up can visit during the center’s regular business hours (6 a.m. - 9 p.m.).
